CODE RED: Menstrual Health Meets Innovation
International Day of the Girl Child 2025
“The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead”
On October 11, 2025, Tech Inclusion for the Deaf Initiative (TIDI) marked the International Day of the Girl Child with a powerful outreach at the Kwara State School for Special Needs through our program, CODE RED: Menstrual Health Meets Innovation.
Our volunteers engaged 51 Deaf girls in an inclusive and safe learning space, delivering sessions entirely in Nigerian Sign Language (NSL). The program focused on menstrual hygiene education, hands-on training on DIY reusable sanitary pads, and digital literacy—introducing how mobile apps like FLO can help track menstrual cycles and promote body awareness.
Beyond information, the day created room for open conversations, confidence-building, and breaking long-standing taboos around menstruation within the Deaf community. The girls actively participated, asked questions freely, and left empowered with practical knowledge they can use and share.
At TIDI, we believe that every girl deserves access, dignity, and knowledge, regardless of disability. By combining health education with innovation and accessibility, we are nurturing girls who are informed, confident, and ready to lead change.
The girl she is today is the change she leads tomorrow.
